About The Palm Springs Art Museum Wedding Venue
101 Museum Drive, Palm Springs, California 92262
The Palm Springs Art Museum is truly an original in this city. The museum first opened up in 1938 at La Plaza in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. At that time, you could swing by and find some natural science exhibits as well as Cahuilla Indian artifacts. Over time, it bounced around to a few different locations until 1974, when architect E. Stewart Williams was hired to design the current building. Since then, it has faced its fair share of expansion, with a number of buildings being added onto the collection. They also shifted their focus to meet the needs of an evolving audience.

Soon, architecture, photography, and contemporary glass became the main focus. Today, the center continues to further its mission to celebrate the history and the culture of Palm Springs from its outdoor Sculpture Garden to its colorful atrium. No matter your vision for your wedding day, I just know this center will have the perfect spot for you!

Details of the Grounds
When you book your wedding at the Palm Springs Art Museum, you are going to have plenty of options throughout your wedding day. Those looking for an outdoor wedding are going to find their space at the Elrod and Meyerman Sculpture Gardens. This space is nestled beneath the jutting architecture of the museum, marrying the midcentury modern style with the Palm Springs sunshine for a truly glamorous celebration! The reflection pool stands at the heart of the area with a concrete bridge running from one side to the other. Many couples choose to exchange their vows standing on this bridge with their guests gathered around them. This is the ideal spot for a smaller wedding with enough space for up to 200 guests. You can stay here throughout the day as cocktails and hors d’oeuvres come out. From there, you can finish things off with an intimate dinner.

The museum also offers the Architecture and Design Center over on South Palm Canyon Drive for an outdoor celebration. This area is so perfectly Palm Springs with cacti and palm springs breaking up the concrete. The building’s midcentury architecture is going to shine in the backdrop, whether you are saying your I dos or partying late into the night!

Prefer something indoors? Then I would love to tell you all about the Atrium. This huge space is so perfectly chic with curved ceilings. If you’d like, you can work with the museum to project artwork onto here. This area also features lava rock walls as well as glass balconies that look out over the space. As you celebrate, you’ll get the chance to gaze upon artwork from world-renowned artists, including Picasso and Lichtenstein. This area is suited to host up to 500 guests, making it the ideal location for indoor weddings of all sizes.

Photography Opportunities
As a Palm Springs wedding photographer, I recently got the chance to photograph Joe and Danielle’s Palm Springs Art Museum wedding, and over a year later, I am still dreaming about it. Yes, this location is that good. The very first thing you need to know about this New York couple is that they are wild about all things mid-century modern. Of course, a Palm Springs wedding called to them! Throughout their wedding week, they stayed at the Azure Sky Hotel. This boutique, adults-only space was the perfect spot to start out their wedding day. After I arrived, we took plenty of pictures around the grounds, stopping by the pool for some champagne as the mountains towered in the backdrop.

From there, it was time for their ceremony in the Sculpture Gardens at the museum. They exchanged their vows out in the sunny courtyard before heading inside to take their portraits. They shared a kiss on the winding staircase before checking out some MCM artwork. I loved how much color the pieces added to their wedding portraits! Finally, we wandered around the town, taking some pics amidst the iconic houses and palm trees. This couple had always dreamt of having a romantic getaway for their wedding, and the Palm Springs Art Museum proved to be their dream location!
