Since she first competed in Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Trixie Mattel’s star has never, ever dulled. From releasing albums to performing comedy, it seems like there’s nothing she can’t do. So of course, when she decided to renovate a run-down hotel, it was pretty much guaranteed to be a hit! Nowadays, you can rent out the Trixie Motel for everything from photo sessions to weekend stays. As a Palm Springs wedding photographer, I love working with couples to give them their dream sessions. Here’s what you need to know about the Trixie Motel in Palm Springs!

About Trixie Motel in Palm Springs
210 W Stevens Rd, Palm Springs, California 92262
Trixie Mattel is someone who probably needs no introduction by now. She got her start on season seven of RuPaul’s Drag Race, getting eliminated in the fourth episode and then re-entering the competition later in the season. Overall, she finished in sixth but left the show as a certified fan favorite.
Since then, she hasn’t ever once slowed down. She’s released four folk albums, has made cameos in both reality and network television, started a comedy act, and released her own makeup brand. It was only a matter of time before she set her painted eyes on the real estate biz.

In 2020, Trixie purchased a hotel alongside her then-partner David Silver. The pair made a television show focused on completely renovating the Coral Sands Inn. The first season premiered on Discovery+ in 2022 with cameos from stars like Lisa Vanderpump, Nicole Byer, Brittany Broski, Leslie Jordan, the Scott Brothers (aka The Property Brothers), Zooey Deschanel, and Orville Peck. Over the course of 8 episodes, the couple transformed the space room by room into a colorful, kitschy paradise inspired heavily by Trixie’s statement mod-style. They hosted their grand opening on September 1, 2022, just in time to celebrate Pride Weekend!

Services
The Trixie Motel has seven rooms you can book for your stay. Each space is bold and colorful with hand-painted walls, vibrant furniture, and mid-century accents. The rooms are completely unique, giving you the ability to choose which backdrop is right for your Palm Springs stay. There are three queens (the Queen of Hearts Room, the Atomic Bombshell Room, and the Malibu Barbara Room), three suites (the Pink Flamingo, the Flower Power, and the Yeehaw Cowgirl), and the Oh Honeymoon Suite.

While many people choose to stay here for the night, there are a few ways to just swing by and take in the sights for a few hours. Feel like going for a dip in the pool? Then you can purchase a pool pass that lasts for up to 15 hours. Grab your heart-shaped sunnies and your swimsuit and take a break from the Palm Springs heat in style! While you are there, you can swing into the Barbara Bar and order a drink and some snacks in this iconic space. Seriously, there’s no better place in the world to sip a martini and escape the stress of the outside world.

Engagement Session At Trixie Motel In Palm Springs
Trixie Motel is a picture-perfect space both inside and out. So, when you are looking for a spot for your engagement portraits, why not choose this one?! A few years back, I got the chance to see the magic for myself. My clients, Ethan and Tyler, were planning a 2022 wedding right here in Palm Springs. Because the pair lived in Florida, they needed a spot to come and crash for a few days. They are both huge Trixie fans, and they instantly knew where they wanted to be! They booked their stay, and we had an engagement session right here on the property!

The couple had booked out the Honeymoon Suite, so we started out with some pictures inside their room with the pair getting ready for their day. As a photographer who loves working with bright colors, you can bet I was in paradise! The two cuddled in bed as the light poured through the original glass block windows (to quote Trixie herself, “they’re not old; they’re vintage!”) and shared a conversation. The orange, mod bedding quickly became the perfect touch as a pillow fight ensued! Then they had breakfast over in the yellow breakfast nook before it was time to head outside for some sun-soaked photos.

The Grounds
The exterior stays true to the heart of Palm Springs with pink-painted exteriors contrasting the clear blue skies. Some green hedges add privacy while the towering palm trees give you a seriously legendary backdrop. Because the couple loves Trixie so much, we made sure to get some pics on the blush couch in front of the Trixie Motel neon sign before moving on to the rest of the outside.

The pool area is rich with backgrounds that will be perfect for your pictures! The pink flamingos scattered all across the grounds are seriously adorable, while the entrance sign right at the front of the property is a must! Once we were done with these spots, the couple headed over to the lounge furniture around the pool, taking pictures in the lifeguard chair. They shared some kisses beneath the pink pool umbrellas, walked around the courtyard, and took some pictures in front of the gate where an illustration of Trixie’s eye makeup makes a cameo.

They also grabbed some of the heart-shaped pool floaties and used them as a frame as they shared a kiss. After we took a few more pictures in front of the statement pink building, the couple headed to the Palm Springs Art Museum, where we finished up one of the sweetest engagement sessions in the entire world!
