When it comes to getting your photo taken, how do you know what outfit to wear? I get asked this question time and time again by clients. My answer is always the same; it depends what your comfortable in and how styled you want your photos to look. Over the years I have created a list in my journal of Do’s and Don’ts on what to wear.
First you have to do a process of elimination when finding the perfect outfit by answering some questions.
1. Do you want to look formal or casual?
2. Do you want to blend in with your location or stand out?
3. What are you most comfortable wearing?
A great way to get inspiration and ideas on outfits is to look online either on Google, Pintrest, or other photographers’ websites. In my experience wearing what you are most comfortable with is always a safe bet. Here are some options that are fool-proof:
-Dark Jeans
-Polos or button up shirts
-Maxi or casual cocktail dresses
-Boots or wedges (if you’re feeling adventurous try Nike or Van shoes!)
What to stay away from:
-Neon colors
-Bright reds and pinks
What are some colors that work for everyone? I get asked this question a lot too, epspecially for family portraits and engagement session. Try going with pastels, tans, and navy blues. These colors look great on everyone and turn out nicely in photos too!
